About Lukasz Luczaj

Lukasz Luczaj is associate professor at the University of Rzeszow, Poland. His main interests include the traditional use of wild foods in Eurasia, maintaining biodiversity in wildflower gardens, as well as the use of plants in rituals and beliefs.  

He has carried out ethnobotanical and ethnomycological field research in Poland, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia (Caucasus), Laos and China. He is also interested in archival sources concerning plant uses in Eastern Europe.

Apart from the work in Academia he has a large wild garden in the Carpathians where, since 2002, he organises cooking workshops with wild plants, fungi and insects, being one of the predecessors of the foraging movement in Europe. 

Lukasz has authored a few popular books on edible plants and insects, books about connecting with nature and a manual on how to make love outdoors, as well as a few cooking television programmes. He also runs two youtube channels devoted to wild foods (in Polish and English).
